Top 10 Money Market Mutual Funds – March 2010
Here is the first edition of FRPP rankings in the Money Market/Liquid Funds category (See previous post on FRPP
Liquid Funds invest in short-term instruments such as treasury bills, CDs, and commercial papers. The goal is to provide liquidity and not be affected by interest rate movements. Hence, these funds don’t intend to provide superior returns.
Why do you need them? Because, they do better than your savings account returns. These are good places to park your surplus funds, and funds waiting on the sidelines. The lock-in period is minimal and investors could maximize returns by holding their cash positions in these funds.
A total of 65 money market mutual funds were used in the analysis. HDFC has a good set of liquid funds. The HDFC Cash Management Fund and LIC Liquid Fund are the top picks.
